a little taste of our town....

i thought i would share a house that is featured in our town's magazine, charleston home...it's an 1895 cottage located on sullivan's island. the quirky couple refurbished the entire cottage and painted it entirely white. it makes me realize why i like white so much...and it allows you to show off color soooooooo well. i adore the texaco sign in the kitchen. its just a great house and thought you might enjoy seeing it. the couple is really interesting and owned a great kitchen store on King St. before trading in their downtown address to move permanently to the beach! all the pics and the article is found here.

my kind of fan....

sometimes its hard to try and give your "designer" opinion on fans...because truth being said, they aren't really something "designers" tend to gravitate towards. however, i LOVE with all my heart and soul the industrial fan by RH. as much as fans are not suppose to be details/ accents in a room, i love what this says...old school, tons of character and just plain old cool.... i am trying to convince a client to use these in their home and i was happy to see it last night when i was flipping through an old Elle Decor (oct 05")...its in SJP's south hampton home.

one year....

my little girl/ drama queen is turning one tomorrow! i can't believe a year has flown by...kind of brings tears to my eyes!! so this memorial day, as well as many, many future ones, we will be celebrating having this little munchkin being brought into our lives. i don't think we ever knew how much our lives would change for the better. happy memorial weekend!

keep rollin', rollin', rollin'....

you remember that limp biscuit song...that's what i feel like today. i wish i could do a video of how i would dance to it back in the day....keep rollin, rollin, rollin (the motion you do is: driving a car w/ one hand on the wheel kind of pimped back as if you had on a sideways hat) and then on the whooooo part (i don't think i spelled that sound right...i would call my husband to ask but i think he would think i was seriously crazy...ok anyways, back to the motion you do- a downward fist pump into your side). WOW, i really have lost it!!

the purpose for me writing about this is- i think that song dictates my day thus far...rollin' to the jobsite real early this AM w/ workout clothes on, a hat, day old mascara under my eyes, oh and how can i forget- a kid attached to my hip- to tell the painters at this jobsite that they painted a room wrong....needless to say, jobsite peps and the owner of the house (aka my client) show up real early too and so i just had to roll w/ it....

you can be my benchwarmer....

how cute is this...love the idea of the old school locker bench for seating and at this price, you might be able to afford it!!

i love fabric....

love, love, love fabric- i could look at them all day. before i went out on my own, i worked at an interior design firm for 7 yrs and one of the ladies who worked w/ me made me aware of a habit i have. whenever we would receive new samples or i would be meeting w/ a rep, i would have to rub my hand over the samples i was looking at. strange. anyways- right now (actually for awhile) i am really drawn to linens- in particular printed linens. basically, if you sit sea cloth (or quadrille for that matter), raoul textiles, victoria hagan, or lulu dk in front of me- i will be a happy camper.

ralph lauren...

working on a house at the beach draws me to ralph lauren's home collection...i mean, the man can work some fab furniture. the pieces are just visually stunning. that tufted ottoman has me drooling and then pushing the contemporary envelope, the red dining room chairs are nothing short of sexy....

the white sofa, part 2...

hey y'all, i am super busy today trying to get together a furniture plan for a house i am working on but i wanted to share this white sofa from chapman radcliff....when i say i love white sofas, what i really mean is that i LOVE white, chesterfield sofas that are at chapman radcliff home!! :) happy hump day.

the white sofa....

i LOVE a white sofa...although i have to admit, we bought our sofa when we moved into this house 4 yrs ago and its a flax linen blend. but that doesn't keep me from loving white sofas.... i am working on a residence where the house screams white sofas! the wife secretly wants them, the husband thinks dogs and practicality... so the dilemma remains. there are so many variations of white fabrics out there these days...slipcovers can be washed (but can be a pain to have to juggle w/ getting them back on perfectly), the outdoor fabric industry has exploded and there are so many outdoor fabrics that have the same properties but w/out the look and stiff waxy feel. so if you own a white sofa, are you left to be become OCD or to you just roll w/ it and sip your red wine w/ the best of them??

tick tock....

this was me last night but instead of holding the clock, i was fumbling around in my office at 1:00 in the morning. i have so much stuff going through my head work related that i couldn't sleep. my husband was annoyed w/ me this AM for staying up but it was a combination of excitement to get started on this project, anxiety due to the deadlines, and just purely b/c i couldn't get my mind to stop thinking about furniture....does this happen to y'all. so now i am exhausted, on my 3rd cup of coffee which is black....i'm not sophisticated enough to drink black coffee, on any given day of the week you will find me loading up on the sugar and cream but for some reason i thought black would be more hard core...i need hard core this AM.

mother's day...

i can't believe i am now a member of the ladies who celebrate "mother's day"...sometimes i think, gosh i'm a mom....that sounds so old and i am not old!! well, i actually kind of am (going to be 29 in three wks). but you know what, i wouldn't change it for the world. being a mother is a wonderful thing. it might make you crazy at times (i have to go into her room several times before going to sleep to make sure she is breathing) but no one can prepare you for all the happiness you will experience from this little 20 lb (okay she eats a lot...she might weigh more) bundle of joy. so if any of you are in the same club, i hope you have a wonderful day. i have a wonderful mother and mother-in-law to look up too and i couldn't ask for better grandmothers for tay! love y'all!!

pink + greek...

last night i was doing one of my favorite hobbies (ha, ha)- looking at my design magazines. it really is an obsession, a hobby, a job- whatever you want to call it, it's what i do!! this particular night i was on my house and garden (god rest their soul) collection circa jan 07'....for any of you out there who share the same hobby as me, this is the mag with chloe sevigny's house- aka. kw trellis wallpapered hallway w/ the antique bike. anyway, i don't know why i am ranting on about this but to make a long story short (i don't even know how i got a story out of this), its where i spotted these beauties...once again, my eyes are being drawn to pink and add a little greek key nail head and my heart skips a beat. way to go madeleine stuart, i now want, no need, to own two of these little beauties....

sheila bridges

i can't believe i have had a blog this long and haven't written about sheila bridges. her interiors are just amazing. her designs are all over my office- either on my corkboard or found in my notebooks. the use of color in her design is just effortless...they are always right on. i can remember seeing the silhouette ottoman for the first time and i just flipped out. it is such a modern spin on a classical art tradition- LOVE!!

loving the nail head....

i adore the nail head accents on these mirrors...i have never seen ones like that. sorry for the lack of posts...i have had a not so great week. but these mirrors in the new cottage living put a smile on my face. and get my head thinking that could be a diy project....hope y'all have a wonderful weekend.
